Angul: elephant ‘Yashoda’ trampled a man to death today. The incident occured when victim was offering food to the elephant.
Trained elephant ‘Yashoda’, which was recently engaged for the purpose of tranquilising tigress ‘Sundari’ in Satkosia of Odisha’s Angul district, reportedly crushed a man to death today.
The pachyderm crushed Sudura Pradhan (45) of Munda Sahi while he was offering food to the elephant on the premises of Purunakote Forest Range office in the district. Pradhan died on the spot, reports said.
On being informed, Forest Department officials and police reached the spot and started investigation.
A compensation of Rs 4 lakh will be given to the family of the deceased, said Angul DFO.
‘Yashoda’ was taken from Chandaka forest to Satkosia in a truck on November 2 in a bid to tranquilise tigress ‘Sundari’.
