Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a series of benefits for the construction and other unorganised workers in the state.
Under this new initiative, construction workers registered under Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board will reap the benefits.
Mr Patnaik made a series of announcements, including pension to the construction workers and scholarships to their children, in the state Assembly here today.
The construction workers above 60 will get a pension at par with Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY). Similarly, the chief minister also announced an annual scholarship for the children of construction workers studying in classes from VI to X.
“Annual scholarships of Rs 2000 will be given to children of construction worker families studying in Class VIII, Rs 3000 for Class IX and Rs 4000 for Class X students. One time cash award of Rs 10000 will be given to meritorious Class X students of construction worker families who pass with more than 90% marks. Girl students of construction worker families studying in Class VI and VII will be given cash incentive of Rs 2000 per year,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said.
This apart, a cash incentive to pregnant and nursing mothers of construction worker families will be enhanced from Rs 8000 to Rs 10000 over and above the assistance given under Mamata Yojana.
The government also announced to increase the assistance under Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana which will be enhanced by Rs 20000 over and above MGNREGS and Swachha Bharat Abhiyan Incentive thereby enhancing the cost of construction of each house to Rs. 1.50 lakhs.
For health facility to them, the government also announced a medical assistance up to Rs 3 lakhs for the treatment of nervous disorders, cardiovascular diseases, kidney problems, cancer and orthopaedic disorders provided they are registered for at least one year with the Board.
Besides, a provision of funds for Rs 5 crores has been made for implementation of programmes under Unorganized Workers Social Security Act, Patnaik added.
