Bhubaneswar: Non-resident Odias now can get odia certificate. The state government on Saturday announced to introduce online Odia certificate course for them.

“The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Cuttack would conduct the test for achieving certificates from 2017. The curriculam of the test will be equivalent to class-VII standard Odia,” chief minister Naveen Patnaik announced here at the state secretariat. The chief minister said the decision would benefit the second generation of Odia children living outside the state and country. “It will carry forward the grand legacy of our language,” he said.

The state government’s decision was in the wake of request made by the Odia Society of Americas (OSA) during their recent meeting with the chief minister.
Odia people residing outside the country welcomed the state government’s decision and said it would help them to learn better Odia even though they are not part of the state education system.
Recently the state government has promulgated an ordinance to enforce use of Odia language in all administrative and lower judicial works. The state government has also announced to amend the Odia Official Language Act, 1954.
