Delhi: Farzana Ahmed, who was also hit with bullets, had been in a critical state at the AIIMS hospital, died today. Farzana, the wife of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmed – who was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh earlier this month.

Mr Ahmed, 45, was driving back to Delhi from a family wedding on April 3 when two men on a bike stopped the car and shot him 16 times. His wife Farzana was with him and so were their children, aged 14 and 11, who were told by their father to duck as the first shots were fired.

On Tuesday, the police in Uttar Pradesh said two men in their early twenties have been arrested for the killing and the motive may have been personal.

One of the arrested men, Reyaan, was driving the bike. He allegedly told the police that Mr Ahmed refused to help him in a case and he was angry. The second arrested man is Zainul.
The man who allegedly fired the shots, Muneer, is yet to be found. The police have offeredRs.50,000 for information on him.

Reyaan, who was paraded before the media on Tuesday, said, “Muneer knows the real motive but his (Tanzil Ahmad’s) behaviour towards us wasn’t nice.”

Zainul said: “I had no enmity towards Tanzil Ahmed, I abetted Munir out of friendship.”

The NIA officer was investigating many terror cases including some against suspected ISIS sympathisers, and a joint team of security agencies has been investigating whether his murder was linked to his work.
